HOUSTON – March 4, 2008 – Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reports that the Tax Office Election Day Call Center had answered 33,332 calls by 2:00 p.m. Tax Office personnel have answered 18,316 live calls from voters and election judges, plus another 15,016 calls have been handled by the automated IVR system.

     “If this trend continues, the Tax Office will have answered more than the record 51,518 calls that we took in the 2004 November Presidential Election,” said Bettencourt. “It looks like we will get a new record of 55,000 or more calls just in the primary election alone,” Bettencourt added.
