Property Tax Payments Are Due Tomorrow!
Harris County Tax Office and Appraisal District Open Late on January 31
Average Houston Area Homeowner Will Pay 7% or $232 More In Taxes on February 1

HOUSTON – January 30, 2008 - Harris County Tax Assessor - Collector Paul Bettencourt is reminding all taxpayers that tomorrow, January 31, 2008, is the deadline to pay their 2007 property taxes without penalty and interest. Penalties and interest are 7% for February, or $232 dollars more on the average area home.

To assist taxpayers with property tax payments and homestead exemptions, the Downtown Tax Office located at 1001 Preston will be open until 6:30 p.m. All other Tax Office branches will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. with drop boxes and extra employees at each location.
January 31st only, Tax Office employees will be available to accept property tax payments at HCAD’s office located at 13013 Northwest Freeway, until 6:00 p.m. Only payments by check or money order will be accepted at HCAD. Note: A late filed homestead application granted by the Appraisal District can lower a taxpayer’s bill immediately for their 2007 property taxes.
Taxpayers can “get online instead of in line” to pay their 2007 tax bills. The online payment option gives property taxpayers the choice of using any combination of credit cards and/or e-Checks or partial payments on the Tax Office Web site at www.hctax.net. Full payments can be made by touch-tone telephone by calling 713-368-CARD (2273).A non-refundable transaction fee of 2.15% is charged on all credit card payments. E-checks are free of charge.
January 31st only, property taxpayers may call the Tax Office at 713-368-2000 until 6:30 p.m. Taxpayers may call HCAD at 713-957-7800 until 6:00 p.m.
Property tax payments can be made in person (16 Tax Branches) or by mail. Mailed payments postmarked by January 31 are accepted without the penalty and interest, which starts February 1.
Visit either www.hctax.net or www.hcad.org to verify property tax information regarding payments and exemptions before tomorrow's deadline.
