Press Release
HOUSTON – February 15, 2008 - Harris County Tax Assessor - Collector Paul Bettencourt announces today that the Harris County Tax Office has reached a gigantic milestone through electronic payments. Harris County taxpayers have conducted 1,005,621 automated transactions paying $504,608,081 in combined electronic payments for property tax and automobile registration payments since the launch of the Tax Office’s E-Government Web site in 2000 and over 175 million E-Government dollars in 2008 alone. "E-Government at the Tax Office has already made a great difference in saving the public time and government’s money. About half of our online transactions occur on nights and weekends, as we are open then too,” said Bettencourt. “I have always said that while I can’t give taxpayers a ‘discount’ the next best thing is to give them back their time,” he added.
Note: In June 2007, the Tax Office began accepting partial payments by multiple credit cards or multiple e-Checks or a combination of both to pay their property tax bill online at www.hctax.net.
