City of Houston's Proposed Property Tax Rate Reduction
of 1/8 Penny Not Enough
Bettencourt Will Address The City Today To Seek More Property Tax Relief

HOUSTON – October 24, 2007 - Harris County Tax Assessor - Collector Paul Bettencourt will address the City of Houston again to request on more tax rate reduction today, October 24.

        The public hearing will be held today at the following location and time:

  • City of Houston
    City Hall, Council Chambers
    901 Bagby
    9:00 AM

       As mentioned previously, property tax appraisal rolls for 2007 are up approximately 12% for the City of Houston. This is the strongest increase in appraisal rolls since Paul Bettencourt has been in office.

      The average City of Houston homeowner's tax bill will be up 12.72% even with 1/8 penny proposed tax rate reduction.

      Bettencourt is reiterating to the governing body the impact of property tax appraisal increases on taxpayers.
