Bettencourt Speaks To The Facts Of The Legislature's Property Tax Relief For 2007
Tax Bills Down For Homeowners This Year, But Up For Businesses Over Next Two Years

HOUSTON – June 22, 2007 - Harris County Tax Assessor - Collector Paul Bettencourts is scheduled to speak today at the Americans for Prosperity Texas Summit.  Bettencourt will release for the first time the actual effects of the ISD rate buy-down by the Legislature starting in 2006 and the continuing need for long-term property tax relief for all Texas property taxpayers .

Who:     Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Bettencourt

What:    Americans for Prosperity Texas Summit

        When:   Today, June 22, 2007
                     3 p.m.

Where:  Sheraton North Houston Hotel (Salons D & E)
                    15700 JFK Blvd.
                    Houston, TX 77032

Why:       "Two important facts, using HISD homeowners as an
example, their combined property tax bill will actually
be cut $183 in 2007, but we're estimating the taxes
will be up again $223 in 2008,"  Bettencourt said,
"Secondly, all commercial property owners in HISD
will pay 2.3% more in 2007 even with the buy down
of the tax rates by the Legislature.  They will then
have to pay the expanded business tax in early 2008
                         as well."
