Last Day to SAVE $797 Per Home Or 26.6% In Fact
Downtown Tax Office & Harris County Appraisal District Open Unitl 5:30 p.m. to Help

         HOUSTON – July 2, 2007 - Harris County Tax Assessor - Collector Paul Bettencourt and Chief Appraiser Jim Robinson remind property taxpayers that the Downtown Tax Office and Harris County Appraisal District will stay open late today, until 5:30 p.m. to help the 165,000 taxpayers that haven't paid their property taxes this year.

           "The 165,000 taxpayers have until midnight today to pay property taxes before their account is turned over to collection firms for an additional 26.6% penalty and interest fee costing an average Houston area homeowner $797 dollars," said Bettencourt. "Pay whatever you can to avoid these charges and here's how."

  •    Pay online instead of getting in line with full or partial payments at www.hctax.net
  •   Mail in a check postmarked by July 2nd
  •   Call 713-368-CARD (2273) for touch tone credit card payments
  •   Visit one of the 16 Tax Offices to ask for a six-month payment plan

           "HCAD customer assistance center will be available to help taxpayers with last minute homestead exemptions," said Jim Robinson.
