Press Release
Corrected Voter Certificates Begin Arriving Today HOUSTON - January 10, 2006 - Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt advises registered voters with misprinted voter certificates that corrected certificates will begin arriving this week. If a replacement certificate has not arrived by next week, registered voters should contact the Tax Office at 713-368-VOTE (8683). “Replacement voter registration certificates are arriving this week at absolutely no cost to Harris County taxpayers,” Bettencourt said. “Because this was the printer’s error, the printer agreed to pay all printing and postage costs to correct it.” The Tax Office’s printing contractor misprinted approximately 130,000 of the 1.6 million voter registration certificates mailed out last week. The error resulted in some voters receiving voter certificates with an expiration date of 12/31/2005 rather than 12/31/2007. Harris County registered voters should discard their misprinted voter certificate after receiving their corrected replacement. Texas Election Code Sec. 14.001 mandates that each voter registrar issue renewal voter registration certificates in odd-numbered years. All voter registration certificates are posted on the Tax Office Web site. For more information, call 713-368-VOTE (8683) or visit the Tax Office Web site at www.hcvoter.net. |
