Harris County Tax Office Takes Over City Of Pasadena Property Tax Collections Starting On Monday

HOUSTON – October 13, 2006 – Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Bettencourt announced today that his office will take over property tax collections for the City of Pasadena on October 16. Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Sylvia Garcia and City of Pasadena city officials are credited for supporting the consolidation initiative that will save the City of Pasadena money and offer taxpayers several new options to pay their property taxes.

“Both Commissioners Court and Pasadena City Council should be credited with approving the consolidation contract that is beneficial to all property taxpayers,” said Bettencourt. “According to Pasadena Mayor John Manlove, the city expects to see an anticipated spending cut from $594,000 to approximately $356,000 - a budget reduction of approximately 40 percent.”

The City of Pasadena Property Tax Office will close at the end of business today. All payments currently in the mail will be processed by the Harris County Tax Office and recent delinquent tax bill notices refer taxpayers to the county as well. This year’s 2006 property tax bills will be sent from the Harris County Tax Office. The Harris County Tax Office has two locations in the Pasadena city limits, 7330 Spencer Highway and 101 Main Street. Pasadena taxpayers can also pay at one of the 15 Tax Office branches within the county, or call the Tax Office at 713-368-2000 for more information.

“Pasadena property taxpayers can also choose to ‘Get online instead of in line’ with the Tax Office’s Web site at www.hctax.net or taxpayers also can choose to pay their taxes over the phone at 713-368-CARD,” said Bettencourt. “The bottom line is the fact that the consolidation of Pasadena’s property tax bill into the combined Harris County bill will save taxpayers time and government money.”
