HCAD’s Jim Robinson Wins TAAD’s “Earl Luna Award”
Award is Texas Association of Appraisal Districts’ Highest Honor

HOUSTON - February 28, 2006 - Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Bettencourt congratulated Jim Robinson, the chief appraiser of the Harris County Appraisal District, today for being named the recipient of the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts’ Earl Luna Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to property tax administration and the appraisal profession.

“I congratulate Jim on winning the Luna Award, and I congratulate the TAAD on selecting such a deserving recipient,” said Bettencourt. “I’ve known and worked closely with Jim for more than seven years, and I see his dedication to the taxpayers.”

The award, which was presented last week at the TAAD’s 25th annual conference, is named for the late Earl Luna, a Dallas lawyer who served as the first chairman of the Dallas Central Appraisal District’s board of directors and was instrumental in founding the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts.

Robinson has been the chief appraiser for the Harris County Appraisal District since August 1, 1990. In that role, Robinson manages the nation’s second-largest property tax appraisal operation, which annually values 1.7 million parcels and produces the annual appraisal roll for over 400 taxing units within the county.

“Jim is the only chief appraiser in the state who’s testified for appraisal caps and helped taxpayers learn how to protest their values, all the while doing his job to correctly appraise all the property in the county day after day,” said Bettencourt. “Jim’s the best in the state, and I’m glad to see him recognized by his peers.”

A 6th generation Texan and native Houstonian, Robinson and his wife, Maggie, have three married children and four grandchildren.
