Delinquent Property Tax Bill To Be Up 41.6% As Of July 1
Downtown Tax Office Extends Friday Hours Due to HISD Consolidation;
82,203 Single Family Residences Currently Delinquent

      HOUSTON - June 30, 2006 - Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Bettencourt reminds the 82,203 delinquent single-family residence owners to either pay their bills or set up a payment plan today, June 30, 2006, to avoid having their account turned over for collection and penalties as shown here:

26.6% Penalty, Interest and Fees

      Unpaid 2005 Delinquent Property Tax Bills will increase 26.6% on July 1,        or by $984 on the average single-family residence, for a total 41.6%        penalty and interest on July 1.

      Unpaid 2005 Delinquent Property Taxes will continue to increase by 1%        every month thereafter until the account is paid in full.

  • The Harris County Appraisal District will stay open until 5:30 p.m. today to assist taxpayers with exemptions and the downtown Harris County Tax Office will stay open until 6:30 p.m. to help taxpayers who have last-minute installment plan requests and were unaware that the Tax Office is now collecting taxes for the Houston Independent School District (HISD). HISD taxes are now payable only at Tax Office locations.


  • Property taxpayers should visit any of the 15 Harris County Tax Offices for property tax issues.


  • Delinquent property taxes may be paid in full online before today’s June 30 deadline by credit card or e-Check at www.hctax.net. Credit cards also may be used for payment using a touch-tone phone by calling 713-368-CARD (2273). A transaction fee of 2.15% will be added to credit card payments.


  • Partial payments by check or cash are accepted by mail or at any Tax Office location without an agreement. Any balance remaining after June 30, will incur the added collection penalty of 20%.
